Description
Fexofenadine hydrochloride is the hydrochloride salt form of fexofenadine, serving as the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) classified as a second-generation, non-sedating antihistamine. It functions as a selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist, effectively inhibiting histamine-induced allergic responses with minimal penetration of the blood-brain barrier, thereby significantly reducing central nervous system side effects such as drowsiness.
Solubility
Soluble in Dimethyl sulfoxide (50 mM), and methanol.
Applications
The Fexofenadine hydrochloride API is used in the manufacture of oral dosage forms (tablets, capsules, and oral suspensions) for the symptomatic relief of seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives). Its applications include alleviating symptoms such as sneezing, rhinorrhea, itchy or watery eyes, and skin itching/wheals, providing 24-hour efficacy with a favorable safety profile suitable for both adults and pediatric patients.
