Source and Preparation
Hydroxypropyl betacyclodextrin (HP-B-CD) is a hydrophilic derivative of B-CD condensed with 1, 2- propylene oxide.
Applications
It is applied in medicine, food and environmental protection, especially as drug excipients, which can improve the water solubility and stability of drugs. It can promote the dissolution of weakly polar organic compounds in water.

Compared with other derivatives, the hemolysis sequence was DM-B-CD>SBE1-B-CD≈ 1>SBE4-B-CD>SBE7-B-CD
Incompatibilities
The presence of cyclodextrin in aqueous solution may reduce the activity of some antibacterial preservatives.
