Description

The inclusion complex is formed by encapsulating curcumin molecules into the hydrophobic cavity of cyclodextrin (e.g., β-cyclodextrin, hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin, or γ-cyclodextrin). Curcumin itself is a lipophilic compound with extremely poor water solubility and low bioavailability. Complexation with cyclodextrin significantly enhances aqueous solubility, protects curcumin from light, heat, oxygen, and pH degradation, and substantially improves its bioavailability. Studies show bioavailability can be increased by approximately 40 times or more.

Safety Statements

Well tolerated. Acute oral LD₅₀ in mice exceeds 2000 mg/kg body weight. CAVACURMIN® was well tolerated at doses up to 3500 mg/kg/day in rats. Cyclodextrins are considered practically nontoxic when administered orally
