Description
Succinic acid is a versatile pharmaceutical agent, serving both as an active ingredient and as an excipient. As a therapeutic component, it is formulated in ferrous succinate for iron-deficiency anemia, while its derivatives—such as methylprednisolone succinate (an anti-inflammatory corticosteroid) and sumatriptan succinate (for acute migraine)—are widely used in clinical practice. In drug formulation, succinic acid acts as a pH adjuster, buffering agent, and solubility enhancer, improving the stability and bioavailability of various medications.
