Description
Terbutaline sulfate is the sulfate salt form of terbutaline, functioning as the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) in the class of selective 尾2-adrenergic receptor agonists. It works by directly stimulating 尾2-receptors in bronchial smooth muscle, leading to relaxation, bronchodilation, and relief of airway obstruction, with a relatively lower affinity for cardiac 尾1-receptors compared to non-selective agonists.

Applications
The Terbutaline sulfate API is primarily used in the manufacture of inhalation solutions (for nebulizers), dry powder inhalers, and oral tablets for the treatment and prevention of bronchospasm associated with reversible obstructive airway diseases, such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It is also applied in obstetric settings as a tocolytic agent to manage preterm labor by relaxing uterine smooth muscle.
