Source and Preparation
Preparation method of polyethylene glycol mono-hexadecyl ether emulsion wax (non-ionic emulsion wax). Melt and mix 800 g of 1816 alcohol and 200g of polyethylene glycol 1816 glycol polyether (polyethylene glycol 1000 hexadecyl polyether). Stir the mixture until cool.
Applications
Non-ionic emulsified wax is used as an emulsifier in the production of oil-in-water (o/w) emulsions. Its advantages are that it is not affected by moderate electrolyte concentrations and is stable over a wide pH range. Because this product has "self-dying action", its concentration will affect the consistency of the product; When the concentration reaches about 5%, the product can still flow. A non-ionic emulsified wax with a concentration of about 15% is commonly used in creams, but concentrations as high as 25% have been found, as in the case of chlorhexidine cream contained in BP. Non-ionic emulsified waxes are particularly suitable for use with polyvalent metal salts and nitrogenous compounds. The cream is susceptible to microbial contamination, so appropriate anti-corrosion measures should be taken. Non-ionic emulsifying waxes are also used to prepare skin balms and non-aqueous ointment substrates, such as PEgol mono-cetyl ether emulsion balm BP-contained.
Incompatibilities
Non-ionic emulsified wax should not be compatible with tannic acid, phenol and phenols, resorcinol and benzocaine. This product can reduce the antibacterial effect of quaternary ammonium compounds.
