Nanocrystal Development Services

Nanocrystal technology is a formulation technology in which drug particles are prepared into nano-sized drug crystals by fragmentation and dispersion or precipitation crystallization, and stabilized with stabilizers. This technology is simple to prepare and has the potential for multiple routes of drug delivery and can be effectively used in novel drug delivery systems. Nanocrystalline drugs are drug particles that are directly micronized and processed to the nanoscale as a carrier-free submicron colloidal dispersion system, with particle size generally ranging from 100 to 1000 nm, containing only active ingredients and stabilizers, the role of stabilizers is to reduce the aggregation of drug crystals and improve the stability of the product.

Nanocrystal Technology for Nanocrystalline Drug Development

Advantages of Nanocrystals

  • High Safety

Nanocrystals do not use carrier delivery, so they do not contain a large amount of surfactants and carrier materials, and do not produce metabolites of materials, which is safe.

  • High Bioavailability

The micronization process reduces drug particles to the nanometer level, increases the specific surface area of insoluble drugs, improves solubility and dissolution rate, and has greater surface adhesion, prolongs the action time of drugs in the mucus layer, limits diffusion to increase the local concentration of drugs, and promotes the absorption of drugs in the gastrointestinal tract. It has also been reported that nanocrystalline drugs can saturate the efflux transport proteins on biological membranes and improve bioavailability.

  • Improve Drug-forming Properties

Nanocrystal technology is applicable to class II and IV drugs in the Biological Drug Classification System (BCS), especially the former, which greatly improves the drug-forming properties of insoluble drugs.

  • High Drug Loading Capacity

No excipients other than necessary stabilizers are needed in the product, and the drug itself is used as the delivery system with high drug loading capacity.
