Extracellular Vesicles Purification and Process Design Services

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are a class of submicron lipid membrane vesicles secreted by cells with a bilayer lipid membrane structure. Depending on the formation process and cellular origin, extracellular vesicles (EVs) include microvesicles (MVs), exosomes, and apoptotic vesicles. Microvesicles, generally 50 nm to 1 μm in diameter, are nanoscale membrane-bound vesicles secreted by cells directly through the plasma membrane outgrowth vesicles, which are subcellular physiological carriers present in all body fluids.

Advantages of Extracellular Vesicles as Drug Delivery Vehicles

  • EVs contain a lipid layer with good mobility and a corresponding membrane protein on the lipid layer, which is strongly targeted.
  • EVs are modified to enhance their fusion with membranes and uptake by cells, and are easily acquired by target cells actively or passively, thus improving drug delivery efficiency.
  • The composition of EVs is very similar to that of human own cells, which is non-immunogenic and has good biocompatibility.
  • EVs are self-cellular products that prevent their own phagocytosis by macrophages, degradation by endosomal pathways and lysosomes, and thus have long circulation characteristics and can deliver the transported drugs directly to the target cells.

Our Services

EVs Purification and Quality Control

CD Formulation is equipped with specialized laboratory and isolation technologies to provide EVs isolation and obtain EVs with high purity. Single particle analysis of EVs can be performed by nano-flow detector to determine the particle concentration, particle size distribution, drug loading, protein, nucleic acid and other physical and biochemical properties of EVs, to quality control the production process of EVs and improve the drug loading efficiency. At the same time, the stability of EVs after production can be evaluated to ensure that they can meet the current market standards and requirements for EVs performance.

Extracellular Vesicles Purification and Process Design Services

EVs Process Design

CD Formulation has the process technology to cultivate cells and extract EVs from them. Variations in culture conditions (such as cell passaging, cell density, and EVs harvesting frequency) can affect product quality (including yield, EVs composition, and biological activity of EVs), and our researchers can provide process design and solutions to help customers move faster in their drug development.

Application of EVs as Drug Carriers

EVs as Chemical Drug Carriers

Currently, curcumin, paclitaxel, temozolomide, adriamycin, etc. can be used as EVs as carriers to achieve targeted delivery.

EVs as a Gene Drug Carriers

Complex methods have been developed to load specific RNAs into EVs while protecting them from extracellular endonucleases. EVs as carriers provide stability and invisibility of nucleic acids in the blood and reduce immunogenicity for stable transport to target cells, mainly for the treatment of oncology-related diseases.
