Bulk Density and Compaction Density Test

CD Formulation, as a professional drug formulation development provider, offers a series of drug prescription screening process testing services, such as the determination of API physical & chemical characterization, powder flowability test, adhesion test, cone penetration test, solid density test, bulk density and compaction density test, which help customers to know enough specific information about drug prescription for better drug development and accelerate the process of drug commercialization. Bulk density and compaction density are the most commonly used quality control parameters in pharmaceutical powder production.

Bulk Density and Compaction Density Test

Background

Bulk density is the mass of powder per unit volume when the powder sample is naturally filled in a specified container. The measured value is affected by the preparation, treatment and storage of the sample, that is, the disposal process. Compaction density is the mass per unit volume of powder in a container measured by vibrational compaction under specified conditions. The measured value is affected by the vibration frequency.

Our Services

CD Formulation offers multifunctional bulk density and compaction density measuring instruments that can test multiple samples simultaneously and can quickly help customers obtain bulk density and compaction density information for their drugs. Our researchers used the mass method to determine the bulk density and compaction density of the drug, and the following is the procedure for the test.

  1. Accurately weigh a certain mass of the powder sample to be measured, tilt it into a glass weighing cylinder and record the apparent volume.
  2. The measuring cylinder filled with loose powder is fixed on the bracket, and the apparent volume is read out after the vibration at a certain frequency. The mass divided by the volume, which is the compaction density.
  3. During the measurement, the same batch of samples are measured in parallel for 3 times, the readings are recorded, and the average value is taken as the measurement result.

Sample Pretreatment

Make sure the sample is completely dry and powdered. If necessary, the sample powder should be passed through a screen to sufficiently disperse the lumps formed during storage.

Caution

  • Compaction of the powder should be avoided when measuring the bulk density.
  • Sample sieving should be done gently to avoid changing powder properties.
