Preservative Content Test

Preservatives can inhibit the growth of microorganisms and ensure the safety and effectiveness of cosmetics during production, use and preservation. CD Formulation can provide preservative content testing services to help customers quickly understand sample performance and better conduct follow-up research.

About the Preservative of Cosmetics

In the process of production and use of cosmetics, it is inevitable that there will be microbial invasion. If you do not add effective ingredients to inhibit microorganisms, it may deteriorate, not reach the desired effect, and even threaten the health of the user. Preservative is a substance added to cosmetics for the purpose of inhibiting microorganisms in cosmetics.

Preservative Content Test

At present, there are high performance liquid chromatography, gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry for the determination of preservatives in cosmetics. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is the most widely used preservative analysis method at present. Because most of the preservatives are macromolecular organic compounds, and have UV absorption characteristics, it is more suitable for HPLC analysis. This method has the advantages of simple operation and high sensitivity.

CD Formulation provides these detectors, which can test the sample efficiently and quickly, helping customers get the content of preservatives in cosmetics. The detailed procedure is as follows.

  1. Prepare the standard solution of various preservatives respectively, and then dilute it with diluent into 6 solutions of different concentrations to obtain the mixed standard solution;
  2. Weigh the sample, add diluent to dissolve and dilute the sample solution;
  3. Liquid chromatography is used to detect the mixed standard solution and sample solution respectively;
  4. Draw the standard curve of preservative standard mixed solution series, and conduct qualitative and quantitative detection of preservatives in cosmetics by comparing the retention time and standard curve.

Caution

  • During liquid-phase analysis, all solutions should be made to clarify to avoid blocking the instrument.
  • Most preservatives have certain toxicity to human body. Different preservatives have different levels of toxicity, so the amount of use should be determined according to their toxicity intensity.
