Pellets

Pellets are spherical or near-spherical free-flowing particles with a size usually between 500 and 1500 microns. They are usually produced by a granulation process in which a powder mixture consisting of API and excipient particles is aggregated into spherical particles. They can be formulated as an immediate release or sustained release dosage forms, and can also be coated to deliver drugs to specific sites of action in the gastrointestinal tract. Due to the free-flowing properties, the pellets provide a high degree of flexibility for formulation development. They are easy to pack without any difficulties. The spherical shape and low specific surface area of the pellets make the film uniform. Compared with tablets, the pellets eliminate the dose dumping effect, make the blood drug concentration curve smoother, and the drug absorption is more gradual, which further reduces the adverse drug reactions.

The team of CD Formulation is leading experts in all aspects of pharmaceutical formulation development and dosage form optimization, we can accord the characteristics of the API and the development goals of the customers to design the formulation of pellets. CD Formulation can provide you with one-stop service to meet your needs of pellets.

The Advantages of Pellets:

  • Preparation of modified release multiple dosage form with different release patterns like sustained release pattern.
  • Taste masking of the drugs which are bitter in taste.
  • Mouth melt pellets
  • Polymer based pellets for control release pattern of drug.
  • Increase the mechanical strength of the dosage form.
  • Attractive in appearance

The Process of Developing Pellets

Pelletization is a process of agglomeration, which can convert fine powder or granules of API into excipients into small, free flowing, spherical or hemispherical units. It is setting new horizons for designing oral extended drug delivery system.
